Infamous fellow norwegian Jon Johansen is at it again with his company DoubleTwist. They’ve just released a desktop application that lets you transfer music between a lot of different sources. Apparently the idea is that the web, your devices, iTunes - the lot - should work together without you having to worry about file formats.
The media picked up on the iTunes connection and are writing pretty hysterical headlines about it. The deal with the iTunes copying is this: you can copy tracks your iTunes is authorized to play, and the application does this by playing them silently while recording to mp3. So it’s not a bit-perfect copy but likely good enough for most people.
