A lot of people were speculating that the big news forthcoming from The Pirate Bay was the new “beta extreme” of The Video Bay.  Peter Sunde of TPB shoots down that rumour in a tweet:

A lot of people think that TheVideoBay is our big release. It’s not. :-)

As cool as I think The Video Bay looks, to refer to it as beta (even with another qualifier post fix) would be rather optimistic, so I was half  disappointed and half disbelieving when I saw the rumours.  Still waiting then, for the actual big news.

It has to be said, the video and audio tags of html 5 is far ahead of flash performance on my Ubuntu laptop, so I’m eagerly awaiting these tags to take off on the web.  If you have the Firefox 3.5 beta or another modern browser, go check out the demo video on The Video Bay.  The quality isn’t the best but I think that has more to do with encoding than the video performance. Whatever it is, it’s not VideoBay
