Zed Shaw has a new project out, called Fret War!. I really like the idea a lot, put up a tune in a variety of formats for guitarists to pick apart and have a contest to see who can submit the best interpretation. What I don’t understand is why the music has to be a random assortment of notes, rather than a “real” tune. To me that makes dragging yourself through learning it a boring ordeal and making any sort of useful interpretation of it even harder. Maybe that’s the point!
